there is only anecdotal information about the perceptions of contractors regarding the impacts of planning on performance. This anecdotal data supports the driving question of whether benefits can be
derived from specific planning processes and whether measures of this kind of planning can reflect improvements in project organization and control. Body of Knowledge The body of
knowledge presented in this article includes studies from the 1990s that relate a variety of critical project success factors (CPSF) that can impact project outcomes and studies in the 1980s
that reflected factors that were used to measure success, including keeping on budget, keeping on schedule, customer satisfaction, contractor satisfaction and manager satisfaction. The authors also integrated more recent
studies, including one by Cox et al (2003) that related the primary performance indicators that are used in the construction industry to measures project-based performance outcomes. This literature includes
both current studies and much older studies and the overall body of literature was limited by a lack of a broader range of studies. Sampling Techniques The researchers
randomly selected 27 electrical contractors across the United States based on a response criterion. The authors used a two-stage random sampling technique based on regionality. The contractors were
