access to a sample population, the type of information that needs to be gathered, and the desired end product of the research process. In most cases, the development of
an initial hypothesis or research question that is the center of the study is essential to determining which methods to use and how data collection and analysis will occur.
Foundational Belief Systems There are foundational differences between these two types of research. Qualitative research is based on the evaluations of
qualities of information collected, with the goal of seeking trends or concepts that extend from the data collected. In contrast, quantitative research methods are defined by the use of
this kind of snapshot approach to data collection, where the data is collected and quantified at a specific time or times and outcomes are concrete, but only in terms of
the conditions present at the given time. Quantitative research is based on the integration of quantities, on the use of statistics to prove or disprove a given hypothesis. Within
the scope of quantitative research methods, there are both experimental and non-experimental designs. There are benefits and limitations to both of
these approaches. In quantitative studies, the data collection process has to focus on a set of distinct variables, independent and dependent variables, which are measured and analyzed. Quantitative
studies, including true experimental designs, have always been considered to be the hallmark of scientific research, because the research design takes into consideration in the impacts of factors like researcher
bias in the collection of data. Quantitative methods, though, can vary in terms of the level of complexity and in relation to the research design, which can impact how
