An 18 page paper. The U.S. Congress established Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZ) in Jordan to promote the peace process in the Middle East and specifically between Israel and Jordan. Egypt subsequently became part of this pact. This essay explains what QIZs are, the criteria for a product to be a QIZ product, where and when they were established and how they are operated. exported duty-free to the United States (Embassy of the United States of America in Amman - Jordan, 2008). This initiative is based on and uses the Free Trade Agreement between
the United States and Israel (Economic and Commerce Bureau, n.d.). The idea was to extend the United States favorable trade agreements with Israel to its border countries by amending
the original US-Israel Free Trade Area Implementation Act of 1985 to include a new section that created the zones (Kardoosh and Riad al Khouri, 2004). One of the interesting facts
about this agreement is that there are no timelines, there are no renewal periods. Instead, the U.S. President retains full authority and power to adjust, modify, terminate or suspend the
duty-free status of these products (Kardoosh and Riad al Khouri, 2004). Ten zones or industrial parks were initially identified in Jordan as Qualifying Industrial Zones. These are: the Gateway
QIZ on the northern Jordan-Israel border; the Al-Hassan Industrial Estate in Irbid; the Al-Tajamouat Industrial Estate in Amman; the Ad-Dulayl Industrial Park near Zarka, the Kerak Industrial Estate, Aqaba Industrial
Estate, Jordan Cyber City in Irbid, Al-Qastal Industrial Zone in Amman, Mushatta International Complex in Amman, and El-Zai Readywear Manufacturing Co. in Zarqa (Embassy of the United States of America
