this work is particularly focused on the economic integration of Korean households into the small business sector. The central thesis has to do with the ways in which family-owned businesses
are adjusting to the changes in family power structures. Min demonstrates that this area of sociological study has been impacted by several factors; however, the changed status of women predominates
among the factors sited. Additionally, the study investigates how the changing power structures within the family impact American-born second-generation children and also the elderly. Although, as Min also demonstrates,
to a large extent the Korean-Americans have been successful in their efforts to maintain cultural continuity, Min theorizes and then supports his supposition that the Korean community continues to evolve
in ways that acclimate to their new position within American society. Pyong Gap Min has a great deal of personal experience with his subject matter. Min has lived and worked
for well over a decade in New York, where he has essentially based his research career by studying the profound social transformation that has occurred in New York due to
massive immigration. In addition, to his personal involvement in the New York Korean community, Min employs an in-depth ethnographical approach that includes participant observation as well as community interaction.
Through his in-depth studies and interviews with the members of the New York Korean community, the personalities of these people emerge from the text with the complexities of their various
lives intact. One gets a feel for the struggle that these immigrants are facing as they attempt to find their place in America society. The reader can empathize with their
