work ethic. Punctuality also falls under the area of discipline. There are other elements that go along with this idea such as the fact that everything must be accomplished to
perfection, such as the making of the bed and the cleaning of the gun. In fact, punctuality is simply a function of the perfection expected overall. Yet, it is punctuality
that accentuates the importance of time management. Time management in the military is something critical to carrying out missions. The military is very precise. If soldiers are on a mission,
everyone must be ready to execute the job at a precise time. Also, punctuality goes to the overall efficiency in terms of the operations in military life. Efficiency is important
to success in all facets of the military. The punctuality expected in the military differs from the general punctuality that is seen in many workplaces today. In the twenty-first century,
people are given five minute grace periods in many work situations and in some workplaces, people can stumble in an hour late and not receive harsh consequences. The military is
not accepting of lateness at all. Moore (2003) writes about a personal experience: "Unaccustomed to military punctuality, I was about to learn my first lesson: 0705 is not the same
as 0700" (p.14). Here, this recruit uses military time to provide this anecdote. The fact that the military will not conform to the way that the rest of the world
measures time is to some extent a clue as to the importance that the military places on time in general. Certainly, lateness is something that will not be tolerated at
