jury pool will be tainted due to speculation, nuances and leaked facts. Clearly, the media is not unbiased but even reporting a certain way can create a certain image--wanted or
unwanted--for any facility or activity. Therefore, in studying media and how it can have different outcomes, it is important to use an example. Through the use of a case study,
one can see that indeed, the media can be used to help facilitate the proliferation of a project but on the other hand, the media can make someone or something
look bad just to get ratings or capture the interest of a jaded public. In studying media, a case study submitted by a student will be used. The case study
assumes that a new birthing center in Nassau County, New York will be opened. There are advantages and disadvantages in using the media to publicize the event.
II. Advantages and Disadvantages of the Use of Media In order to publicize an event such as the one submitted in the case study, it is important to note
that there are both positive and negative aspects of using media. On the positive side, the knowledge that a new birthing center is opening will provide the public with necessary
information about their health care options. Using 1998 Census data for the county, it had been noted that in 1994 there were 19,153 live births ("Nassau, NY," 2003). In
