most important branches of an organization is its public relations. In effect, public relations is simply a means of communicating. Public relations exist both internally and externally.
Internally, public relations is geared towards an organizations employees or members. Externally it is geared toward the outside community. Public relations is the means by which organizations communicate
their goals and desires to these entities. Communication, of course, is much more than just idle chat. Proper communication skills
allows individuals and organizations to share information, analyze situations and to set goals (Nelton, 1995). Precisely how this is accomplished in public relations, however, varies not only according to
the specific structure of the organization but also according to the organizations target audience. It is an acknowledged fact that conversational styles and communication skills vary between cultures and
genders (Nelton, 1995). These styles vary considerably according to purpose as well. Public relations is the most effective tool in many instances for bringing another individual around to
a certain viewpoint. It is, however, a tool whose use can change significantly according to the environment and even according to the intended function. Employee relations have an
organization function and can mean the difference in a productive or an unproductive workplace. Societal functions, such as those discussed below relate to the community. Public relations that
are societal in function had a direct impact on that community. There are a number of factors changing the public relations environment.
