in Fruita, Colorado was a project that emphasized natural resources to increase tourism, a major source of revenue (Schneiger, 1999). Eastern Utah and Western Colorado is known for its
rich fossil resources (Schneiger, 1999). Scientists say discoveries and excavations could be made in the region for the next 500 years to uncover everything (Schneiger, 1999). The Dinosaur Diamond Partnership
involves "Delta, Dinosaur, Fruita, Grand Junction, and Rangely in Colorado and Moab, Price, and Vernal in Utah" (Schneiger, 1999), plus another nine smaller communities (Schneiger, 1999). The region is linked
by the Historic Byway, a 550 mile circular scenic highway (Schneiger, 1999). The purpose was to expand economic development by promoting the natural paleontological resources and also to develop a
sustainable tourism industry (Schneiger, 1999). A criterion was to preserve the historical assets of the region (Schneiger, 1999). Part of the funding for the project was a 3 percent lodging
tax enacted in 1996 (Schneiger, 1999). The project is marketed on both national and international levels (Schneiger, 1999). It worked - tourism as a result of the Dinosaur Diamond project
increased tourism revenue in Colorado to $75 million (Schneiger, 1999). The project also won the Colorado Tourism Award (Schneiger, 1999). Another aspect of this project is the opportunity to diversity
their economy with what is considered a clean industry (Schneiger, 1999). The project further allowed Fruita to avoid becoming a bedroom community for Grand Junction (Schneiger, 1999). Morale of residents
