Unfortunately, the myth that anyone can become president in the United States is just that-a myth. Obviously there has never been a black or Latino or female president. While
some minorities have come close to at least the Vice Presidency, it does seem that few have really had a chance. For example, the eloquent Alan Keyes lagged far behind
George Bush who was by most accounts a poor speaker and debater. In the end, the man with the most money wins. More often than not, while some money is
their own, much of the money comes from special interest groups. Because there is a lot of special interest money in many elections, candidates feel obligated to support the causes
for which they receive funding. It is natural. If they take money from, say, a group that supports gun control, they are expected to support gun control. What happens is
that the cycle is perpetuated and in order to become re-elected and make a career of politics, many candidates end up as puppets for these groups. Rather than working for
the greater good of society, they work to fund their next election. This is a topic that is not obscured and in fact the subject of much debate. The subject
is of particular relevance when it comes to Congress. In fact, re-election is the sole factor that motivates members of Congress when making public policy. In other words, members of
