Psychological testing can be used to determine a variety of ailments or irregularities such as ADD, anxiety, autism, depression, OCD, eating disorders, etc. By analyzing these samples of behavior, psychologists often use tests and compare an individuals score to statistical tables to determine if he or she is acting irregularly and to what severity. Psychological testing can be used to assess IQ, irregular attitudes or behavior, abnormal changes in personality as well as potential mental illness. However, it should be noted that there are some ethical issues that surround psychological testing and the impact these issues have on the field of psychological testing. For example, the right to privacy and the right to informed consent are two common ethical issues that are closely associated with psychological testing. It is well known that an individuals right to privacy is an essential part of American society and it is taken very seriously. The term confidentiality indicates that any information a patient reveals to his or her doctor must be kept confidential between that doctor and his or her patient. Therefore, the physician has an obligation to keep that information private. Often times, doctors may discuss cases with other physicians in passing such as in a cafeteria or on an elevator.
