The structure of our brain and the functions of the various parts is essential to our understanding of psychological function. Even such root aspects of behavior as intelligence are
determined to a large degree by the cerebral configuration. The cerebellum is the second largest portion of the human brain (Anthony and Thibodeau, 1983). It is partially covered
by that portion of the brain that we know as the cerebrum. The cerebrum of the brain is divided into two hemispheres and these are collectively covered by the
cortex, a 1/8 inch thick wrinkled sheet of grayish colored tissue (Menon, 1997). The cerebral cortex is the location of intellectual activity and of higher correlations while the cerebellum
works in coordination with the cerebral cortex in the control of the skeletal muscles (Anthony and Thibodeau, 1983). In short, the cerebral cortex subserves a tremendous diversity of psychological
functions and, in turn, influences many aspects of our behavior. The cerebral cortex is influential in the way we talk, walk, and even think.
The cerebellum is separated from the cerebrum by a transverse fissure (Anthony and Thibodeau, 1983). The cerebellum, like the cerebrum is encased with cortical gray matter called
the cortex (Anthony and Thibodeau, 1983). It is the gray matter, the cortex, of the cerebrum and the cerebellum which provide the most interesting comparison. Each is networked
with fine grooves and convolutions, referred to as sulci and gyri respectively (Anthony and Thibodeau, 1983). The convolutions of the cerebellum are much less prominent, however, than are those
