She draws from her experience with two diverse cultures - Asian and Latino - and the completely divergent drive each child bestowed upon his or her understanding of English. Within the fundamental basis of this comparison exists a paradox that has long been recognized: The Asian culture is far and away more disciplined when it comes to its studies. After establishing this cultural difference, the author sets out to design a workable system whereby students of all cultural heritage could gain a significant amount of understanding and a firm grasp on the language by utilizing "a set of clear instructional challenges" (Sullivan Palincsar, 1996, pp. 221-227). It is because of this negative cultural diversity that Sullivan Palincsar (1996) addresses the issue of equality in education. Her stance is that all students are deserving of uniform opportunities to succeed academically; however, she is quick to note that this is not the situations reality. "...Schooling is about the kinds of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students should acquire -- all students, regardless of ethnicity, language of heritage, or socioeconomic status" (Sullivan Palincsar, 1996, pp. 221-227). Clearly, the message presented in this article acknowledges the perceived weaknesses within a particular culture; however, it also identifies the fact that all students are worthy of an equal chance at education.
