A 4 page paper which analyzes an article written by Peter Singer titled 'Famine, Affluence, and Morality.' Singer feels that it is the moral obligation of all peoples to assist others all around the world when they are experiencing times of famine and hunger. This paper discusses many of the aspects of Singer's article and also includes an analyzation involving an article by Jan Naverson titled 'Feeding the Hungry.' The analyzation illustrates how Naverson's philosophical arguments would address the arguments of Singer. Naverson argues that aiding those in famine situations, though charitable and admirable, is not necessary and involves much more chance for error, in relationship to the abusive potential it offers to the government, as well as other areas of concern such as altering a culture's structure. there are many people who believe that the wealthier countries of present day history, are obliged to feed the hungry of other nations. They believe that when we see such
a situation occurring it is nothing less than our moral duty to assist these people and aid in providing them with food. Some even believe that the rate of giving
should be done to the point where those giving are nearly in the same economic and sufferable position as those originally suffering from the famine. Peter Singer is one of
those people. In his article titled "Famine, Affluence, and Morality," Singer argues that it is the duty of mankind to assist those who are suffering from famine. According to Singer,
famine is a problem because it creates unreasonable death to countless people. Famine should not even exist in a world where there are so many of us who spend our
money frivolously. The wealthier countries should not even hesitate to give money and assistance to the hungry nations of the world, and he claims that it is our moral obligation.
People should not be allowed to suffer needlessly, such as occurs in the situation involving famine, and as such the subject is a very important one to Singer. Famine,
in realistic terms and in terms presented by Singer, is often caused by many different realities. The first cause that Singer mentions in his address concerning Bengal is overpopulation. Singer
