our lives is the pursuit of wisdom and understanding and we should strive to achieve these no matter what it may cost us. The universal theme, though, is that the
most important thing to gain is wisdom. Wisdom is the light that will guide us in todays complex world. It will guide us to making decisions that are in accordance
with Gods laws. Wisdom proves us direction for thinking, speaking, and acting. If we do not have wisdom, we will be unable to avoid the many temptations that are plentiful
in todays world. Understanding is connected to wisdom in that it helps us to think critically. This helps us to determine right versus wrong. If we do not understand,
we can easily be led down the wrong path. Without understanding, we get confused. When we have understanding, we can see things that others might miss, such as something that
is wrong but seems right. Wisdom and understanding is not about the physical world. They are about God. We cannot know God without wisdom. We all know that our
present society places its emphases on pleasure and money, not God. Before Solomon became King, God asked him what he wanted, he replied wisdom and God gave him wisdom. Todays
political leaders say they pray for wisdom but they do not seem to be making wise decisions and Solomon did. This is one reason why this verse is as
relevant today as it was when it was written. In fact, it is more relevant given the state of the world. It does not seem that the world values wisdom
in any true way. At least, not in terms of its Biblical definition. We should consider this: if God says something is supreme, I Am gong to follow His words.
