embraced. It is a very religious and social controversy, a scientific controversy, and a philosophical controversy. The following paper examines the pros and cons of stem cell research.
Pros and Cons: Stem Cell Research For those who argue in favor of all stem cell research the argument is generally related to scientific research and the health industry. Without
stem cell research many conditions, illnesses, diseases would continue to threaten humanity. If stem cell research is allowed, and eagerly embraced by the federal government of the United States then
many health issues in the world could be fixed. And, if they could not be fixed they could be better understood and thus a cure or treatment could be developed.
Without stem cell research this will not happen. In one article it is noted that through stem cell research there has been a possible hope for degenerative eye problems in
people as they age: "The scientists, at Oregon Health and Science University, used human embryonic stem cells that had spontaneously converted into special cells that line the base of the
retina. The cells, which support the light-sensing rod and cone cells above them, are damaged in some forms of macular degeneration....The cells rescued the rats vision" (Wade [3], 2006).
In this it is seen that in playing around with stem cells, from embryos, there is much that can be done for vision problems, to name just one human health
