other, we must consider both. This leads to the authors interesting explanation of what revelation is. Typically, we think of this as some sort of transfer of knowledge or information
or as an aha experience but in Christian terms, it is a great deal more. Newbigin says that revelation is "the giving of an invitation" (p. 65). It is also
a summons and a call from God. It is doubtful many of us have interpreted the word revelation as a summons, call or invitation but if we consider Scripture, we
can see that this makes sense. We must respond to Gods invitation through our commitment of faith and belief. This is an invitation to make our own personal commitment to
God and we are told that if we do so, we will gain truth. The acceptance of this invitation does not come without risk. We must be sure of our
commitment and not doubt it if we are to gain eternal happiness with Christ. Commitment is something all managers know about. The effective leader and manager has a very clear
vision and they are passionately committed to that vision. The most effective leaders are capable of having others adopt the vision and the passion. The greatest example of this
was Christs selection of His Apostles - He said "Follow Me" and they did without question or hesitation. No human can be compared to Jesus Christ but the analogy is
valid. People will do almost anything for the most effective leaders and managers. Subordinates will follow a request or direction even if they disagree simply because they like and respect
