subject of religion, since morality and religion are seemingly inherently intertwined. And yet, while Kant sees some purpose to organized religion he also believed that morality should not be
dependant upon religion. His discussion of good and evil then is quite interesting and quite compelling. Restoring Goodness From Evil According to Kant
There is no question that Immanuel Kant was one of the worlds most important and renown philosophers. Kant spent much of his energy focused
on metaphysical issues and ethics. But perhaps one of the most important issues which Kant tackled was attempting to philosophize about the tension between morality and religion.
It is interesting to note that while Kant was a big believer in nature and science he was far from critical of all
aspects of organized religion. However, Kant basically asserted that there is one universal moral law which applies to everyone, regardless of the particular church to which one belonged.
Kant believed that accessing this moral law which was indeed universal consisted of relying on our own instincts, not in the realm of organized religion.
In this way then, Kant was basically saying that we all have an internal consciousness which is aware of what is truly good and truly evil, and
