and not a story that truly shows a woman confined without her consent, it is a story that has been associated with the classic tale of Cinderella. The following paper
examines how Auburns play, or the character of Catherine, is very similar to the story of Cinderella. Proof by David Auburn and Cinderella The first, and most obvious,
similarity comes in the conditions experienced by Catherine and Cinderella. Catherine, by choice, has essentially given up her own life and career to care for her father. In the case
of Cinderella the care-taking position was essentially forced on her from the time she was a young child. But, both are selfless and both desire to take care of others.
They are sacrificing their own lives in order to take care of people and in this they are very similar. In the
case of Catherine she has a sister who is somewhat controlling and snobbish, feeling she knows what is best for Catherine. However, this sister has no concerns for their father
who has passed for she has only appeared when the end has already come for their father. She accuses Catherine of being mentally ill and wants to control Catherine. In
the case of Cinderella it is not her real sister, but her step-sisters who try to control her and her life. They are superior in attitude and presumptuous nature, just
like Catherines sister, and they feel they have a monopoly on what is right and wrong for Cinderella just like Catherines sister thinks in regards to Catherine.
Both Cinderella and Catherine distrust others in relationship to those that are in their family. Catherine does not trust her sister and Cinderella, although she
