These theories have originated with at least one individuals background in patient care in conjunction with the theorists higher awareness of the interaction of many factors in
realizing physical goals. Though a single theory may not provide a complete perspective, the study of several theories can build a broader one.
Many of the same questions that can apply to assessing the validity of qualitative research can be used to determine a nursing theorys relevance to health care promotion.
Some of those criteria are: * Logic of reasoning * Generalizability * Practicality * Anticipated positive patient outcome A nursing theory
that can add value will have all of these above criteria, at least in some measure. Of the four listed, practicality is the least important criterion for assessment.
A theory seen as being impractical may only be impractical under current methods, and because no one else has seen nursing in the particular view of the specific theorist.
