This paper will above all emphasize a synthetic approach to providing a projective forecast for the future of airline travel. It will accomplish by making projections across a number of dimensions including airline technology, safety, legislation, and management, that are based on an appraisal of existing and historical trends, contemporary conditions, and how the confluence of the two are likely to impact industrial conditions into the future. 2. Quantitative Reasoning Critical thinking is not, however, a matter of "common sense". Often, adopting a common sense approach to tackling a problem can result in errors due to personal and cultural biases. Rather, one must carefully adopt quantitative reasoning. What this means is that the analysis of trends, in order to be fully realized, must sometimes involve the statistical analysis of the incidence of trends, in order to determine if those trends are truly significant (in the statistical sense), or attributable to mere random chance. Where appropriate, quantitative reasoning will be utilized in this examination of the airline industry and its projected future paths. 3. Information Literacy Of critical importance in carrying out any analysis the conducting of meaningful research. This means that one cannot proceed in ones analysis purely from the basis of ones own experiences and previous knowledge, as this knowledge may be incomplete, and ones experiences may be biased.
