to be visible. Overview The following project plan presents an overview of designing and implementing electronic medical records capability in a large teaching
hospital. The plan addresses only the IT portion of the effort and does not include a schedule for conversion of existing medical records.
The project will begin June 5, 2006 and will be completed by September 14, 2006. This time schedule includes "padding" in the event that delays arise; its brevity
rests on the fact that the hospital will use a purchased software package and then customize the package to meet hospital needs. The hospital will need to create custom
training materials for in-house use, but the software includes basic training information that the hospital will not need to develop. Much existing hardware
- including existing PCs and all cabling - will be usable for this project; large purchases include two PowerEdgeTM 6850 servers from Dell at $45,000 each. Basic budget categories
include $100,000 each for hardware; software; and project management and implementation. Project Plan Overview
