or non commercial undertakings and add value (Meredith and Mantel, 2008). The planning and execution of a fiftieth wedding anniversary party for a couple is the marketing of a landmark,
if all goes to plan the party should look well organized and almost effortless, but this is likely to hide a great deal of work and effort that has taken
place in preparation. By reviewing the way hat the planning took place and the outcome, the areas of potential improvement ma be identified and the way that project management techniques
are used could be assessed. On September 20, 2007 it was a 50th wedding anniversary of George
and Jane Jones, an elderly couple with a large family including three children, seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a large extended family. As well as the couple themselves,
several other members of the same generation are still surviving, including brothers and sisters, as well as cousins. Family gatherings did not take place regularly within the family, with the
last major family gathering being a waiting two years previously. It was generally felt among the children and grandchildren, that 50 years was worthy of a major celebration, and as
a surprise anniversary party should be staged to celebrate 50 years of marriage. The main objective was to hold a large, surprise,
