first came into use in the 1950s and it became more common in the 1960s. As projects became more complex, theorists and practitioners placed greater emphasis on effective management strategies
for them. Today, most large companies have multiple projects in process at the same time. In fact, a systematic approach to managing projects was designed for the purpose of managing
multiple projects. It is called Enterprise project management (QuantumPM, 2008). Projects have life cycles that are comprised of four phases: initiation; planning; execution; and closure (Visitask, 2011). Project managers may
refer to these phases as initiate, plan it, do it, and close down. The initiation phases is as it sounds, its the very beginning of the project. The idea is
germinated, the team members are assigned, and the team assesses the investment that will be needed to complete the project, what the real costs are in terms of all resources
needed, what the objective of the project would be, what the expected outcomes are and what benefits will the project really bring to the organization (Visitask, 2011). It is important
to define the scope of the project during the initiation phase (Reh, 2010). It is also important to define what will not be included in the project. This will tell
people exactly what they can expect if the project is successful. The resources must also be clearly delineated during this phase. Resources go beyond money, they include staff time, equipment,
space, supplies, experts, and whatever else may be needed. The project manager should also be identified during the initiation phase. This will eliminate any problems in terms of who is
