New Home Page Links I. Introduction The terrorist attacks which occurred on September 11, 2001 shocked the nation. Never before has one event,
with the possible exception of Pearl Harbor, created such chaos in the United States. Even after President Kennedys death, the nation only stopped shopping for a few days, and then
everything went back to what was thought to be normal. After September 11, 2001, things would never be the same again. A war had begun directly after the attacks and
the economy took a dive. People still feel a sense that something is awry. Although most people have come to the aid of
others who are in need-something exemplified by all the money collected and volunteers who trekked cross country to help-some people use tragedy as a springboard for profit. It is not
only criminals who try to loot, for example. Some companies lobby Congress for favors, taking advantage of the times. Others lay off people and use the tragedy as an excuse.
Of course, there are those who will file false death claims, for example and while there are people who profit from the misfortune of others, it is fortunately the exception
and not the rule. Yes, there has been profiteering after the tragic events. But there is always profiteering in the United States anyway. Still, some of the things which have
