variety of professional organizations that offer useful and essential services to individuals practicing in those fields. By taking advantage of these services, one can greatly increase their likelihood of obtaining
a fulfilling position within the career field they desire. This paper will provide an overview of a few professional organizations that exist in order to provide such services for individuals
working in the information technology field, and in particular those with a focus on information systems security. Professional organizations are a significant boon for the information technology field as a
whole, for several key reasons. Information technology is widely regarded as a technological field, but this is only half of the truth; in reality, it is also very much an
idea-driven field. The best ideas tend to emerge from the interactivity of individuals who put forth their own understanding of the important concepts involved in the field, and then refine
and develop those concepts after they are challenged by or merge with the understanding of others. Far from being an isolated technical field, information technology thrives from and depends upon
