different job taking place the schedule needs to be considered in terms of the task that needs to take place. Often the use of project scheduling programmes can help with
this, but in this case we will perform the process manually, this mean looking at the schedules as they are and trying to rearrange the jobs to maximise the use
of the resources (Bennatan, 1993) To examine this there will be several assumptions made. These are that the working day will be exactly 8 hours in each working day and
that the factor is only working for one shift each day. Therefore where there is 1 day drying needed this is classed as 8 hours, as this would take it
to the next shift. If 2 days drying are needed this will be scheduled as 16 hours as this means that for two whole shifts the products are drying in
the kilns. We will also assume that all departments, with the exceptions of the kilns, can only undertake one job at a time. There are two glazing slots (we
have called the second glazing 2), we will also assume that jobs may be interchanged between glazing and glazing 2. The same is true for the specifically slots. However,
as drying does not take any labour we will assume that this can accommodate several jobs all at the same time. We have been given the number of minutes per
unit for each item per department/task. We will also assume that jobs cannot be split, for example, there is not the ability to do part of a job and then
switch to another before going back to the first job. The first stage of any consideration of scheduling needs to start with
