Discussion The "Curious George" dolls recall was issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on November 8, 2007; it is a "voluntary recall," though the warning says that "[C]onsumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed" (Curious George plush dolls recalled by Marvel Toys due to risk of lead exposure, 2007). The toys are manufactured by Marvel Toys located in New York, New York, and about 175,000 units are included in the recall (Curious George plush dolls recalled..., 2007). Although there have not been any injuries reported, the dolls pose a hazard because the "[S]urface paint on the toys plastic face and construction hat contain excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard" (Curious George plush dolls recalled..., 2007). The doll is a 12-inch plush figure with a plastic face; George is a monkey. The dolls have five different costumes that "represent five various themes: birthday, fireman, sweet dreams, tool time and tool time with a soft face" (Curious George plush dolls recalled..., 2007). The toys were sold at various toy and "discount department stores nationwide from December 2005 through August 2007 for about $15" (Curious George plush dolls recalled..., 2007). The dolls were made in China, and are the latest in what appears to be a long line of unsafe products being received in the U.S. from that country.
