debut of Euro Disney was a huge embarrassment to the Disney company and presented many problems that the company had to overcome so that it could begin to operate profitably.
Euro Disney has been profitable for some time, but not outrageously so as is the case at Disneys other theme parks throughout the world, particularly those in the United
States. 1. What have been the major problems and challenges facing Disney as it operates in Europe? 1.a. Cultural One of the greatest difficulties
with Euro Disney is that Disney characters are not enmeshed in the childhood memories of todays parents. This is not the case in the US, where todays parents and
even grandparents grew up with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Taking the children and grandchildren to a Disney park for many adults is little more than a good excuse
to revisit their own childhood. For Euro Disney to gain this kind of advantage in the future, it needs to be building for that future at the present time
so that when todays children have children of their own, they too seek out Euro Disney as a pleasurable trip back into their own childhood. 1.b. Non-cultural
One of the cultural differences - the willingness for American parents to drive long distances and sit in traffic for long periods - led to a problem
that can be labeled as being non-cultural. All of Europe has extensive transportation systems within and between cities, and most of the countries of Western Europe actively discourage the
use of private autos in favor of mass transit. With its location so far outside a major city, Euro Disney is at a disadvantage in terms of transport.
