The Tuckman model of team development may be useful. This is a model which is used to describe, and as such to manage, the development of teams. The model gives
4 stages; forming, storming, norming and performing. The way that morale develops within an organization is dependant on many factors, the ability to develop social cohesion and increase interaction, which
helps to create the circumstances where social needs are met. The ability to create a team that works well together is good for the organization and the team members. The
first stage of forming is a team sees a development stage where team members tend to be reserved and polite, but it is not a sustainable and team forming moves
onto the storming stage, where the team members are more relaxed and let down their guard, this is where the disagreements start to emerge. Conflict can result in the development
of cliques, this can be unhealthy, however the use of conflict if undertaken where there is cohesion can be healthy and creative.
The norming stage is seen where there is a the values of the group are set resulting from a settling of the conflicts and the differences within the workgroup are
appreciated by the members, If there is a low morale the teams may not have reached this stage, The firm can implement some tools to develop teamwork and allow the
employees t get to know each other in a non work setting, such as orienteering, and allow the, to appreciate the differences so that the norming stage can be completed.
