as being worthy of solving. Once theyve done that, they proceed to develop various approaches to solving it, finally deciding on one, implementing it, and defending the results. This
method demands more of students than rote learning. They must use judgment, think independently, consider alternatives, apply those they think best, and then be prepared to defend the results.
It is challenging and a significant way to help student prepare for real-world challenges. This paper will explore the methodology of problem-based learning in more detail. The Value
of Resources In teaching problem-based learning, its important that instructors develop expertise in handling information technology (Oker-Blom, 1998). In addition, this study found that when teachers are not formally
taught information management skills, they self-teach, with the result that they may not fully understand the complexity of the research process (Oker-Blom, 1998). They send students to the library
"with the assumption that going to the library to research a subject in itself teaches information skills" (Oker-Blom, 1998). The teachers thus found the students research skills acceptable while
the librarians did not; in addition, librarians often helped the students with the result that the students lost confidence "in their ability to independently use the library" (Oker-Blom, 1998).
"Teachers dont seem to recognise [sic] complex nature of information retrieval and librarians get frustrated by how unrecognised [sic] or buried these skills can be" (Oker-Blom, 1998). With the changing
picture of methodology in higher education, there will be a growing focus on "flexible and open learning styles and a growing importance of resource-based learning" (Oker-Blom, 1998). Those resources
will include the material necessary to present students with scenarios in problem-based learning. The Value of Learning Teams In order for students to learn quickly and well, the classroom should
