the hopes of improving the safety of the nation. As the years have gone by, as most people will note, there has been more attention on prevention of criminal activity.
There has also been an increase in treating people with criminal backgrounds rather than always, and simply, punishing them. As can be expected, the future of law enforcement is unknown,
but still there must be some focus on change and adaptation to the future. The following paper examines the future of probation and parole as seen from various perspectives.
Probation and Parole in the Future In one examination it is noted that, "According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, success rates
of those under parole supervision have remained relatively stable for more than a decade. The success of a probation/parole system is usually conceived of in terms of recidivism" (Pearson, 2010).
In light of this it could well be argued that what the various parole and probation offices around the country are doing is working, at least to some extent. However,
one must also understand that many states, and even cities, have their own way of doing things for it is not necessarily a federally controlled part of law enforcement or
the judicial institution of the federal government. This author further indicates how, "Most agencies in the United States are operating under a combined model. This is perhaps the most difficult
agency to evaluate in terms of success or failure" (Pearson, 2010). This is a condition that would also clearly lead them to being institutions that were relatively difficult to predict
