of the problems of imprisonment as prisons are becoming dangerously overcrowded and the crime in the nation does not seem to be letting up by any great degree. The following
paper examines the types of probation and the types of parole available to criminals in the field of justice. Probation As noted in the introduction, each state has
their own particular laws and regulations concerning probation and parole. While most states, it seems, adhere to similar foundations and types of probation, each state will vary and as such
the information provided addresses types of probation in relationship to specific states, which do not necessarily illustrate all the types of probation there is in the nation. In the
state of Louisiana, in the city of Houma, there are considered to be three different kinds of probation as it relates to juvenile offenders. For the most part probation for
adults appears to be simply allowing the individual freedom from jail under specific guidelines, which will be discussed later. In Louisiana those three forms of probation are "unsupervised, supervised, and
State probation. The seriousness of a juveniles charge(s) and/or the number of charges determines what type of probation a juvenile receives" (Juvenile Probation City Court of Houma, 2007). Most
juveniles are under unsupervised probation which means they are monitored through hearings but allowed to continue with their lives without constant surveillance (Juvenile Probation: City Court of Houma, 2007).
