set of criteria in order to determine which should be undertaken first. However, it may be argued that different factors may have different levels of importance, therefore, the scores given
to each of influences can be weighted relevant to their importance. A medium sized specialist retail firm may have four potential IT projects which need to be considered; the implementation
of an online presence to increase sales, the implementation of a customer relationship management database to help increase loyalty of existing customers, the implementing of a new accounting package which
will bring together the different accounting functions which are currently managed by different applications and the implementation of a new HRM package to manage the employee records. Each of
these may be considered individually. But first there is need to consider the criteria which are being used to assess the different IT projects and way in which each of
the criteria will be weighted. As the company is a retail firm is important to the organization to increase sales, but this is to be balanced with other factors, so
this is being given a weighting of 0.3. The next criteria IT projects will be measured against is cutting costs. Generating revenue is assumed to be more important for this
organization rather than cutting costs, but it is still important. Therefore, cost-cutting is given a weighing of 0.2. The next criteria is a requirement for an implementation project to satisfy
