The benefits of low turnover are preservation of organizational knowledge, greater continuity of purpose and a greater sense of belonging among workers. This leads to better performance
with little or no additional effort on the part of management. The paper discusses this topic in light of the principal-agent relationship. Introduction
The business is a 15-year-old "small privately-owned flat-structured IT consulting and development company." There are four managers in the firm; the remaining employees are programmers and support staff.
Of the managers, the general manager is the owner. "There is one general project manager (GPM), one financial manager (FM) and one marketing manager (MM)."
There is little formality in the company. Programmers are not hired to fill specific roles aside that of programming; their work is as varied as
the work assignments they receive. Working hours are flexible and are monitored only through time sheets; everyone except the managers works on a salary, rather than hourly wage basis.
