John F. Kennedy the unhappy distinction of dying before she could accomplish the things she wanted to do. In that sense, her life and death are epic, and can
be compared to the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex. Diana and President Kennedy Of course, mystery still surrounds the death of President Kennedy, since his alleged assassin was himself
shot by another man who is also dead. Those most intimately connected with the assassination are beyond questions. JFK and Diana are linked in death by the fact
that they were both young, popular, and seen as being at the start of their careers. Kennedys presidency had been marred by several mistakes, most notably the failed Bay
of Pigs invasion, but he appeared to be on the way at last to creating what many Americans truly believed would be a more just society. He was one
of the few presidents who was really beloved. Likewise, Diana had gone from being a royal "breeder" to a woman with a passion for good causes; her work for various
charities was remarkable. She was coming into her own, moving out of the extremely heavy shadow cast by the royal family (particularly the Queen), and the people loved her.
Thus, Diana and JFK are similar: young, attractive, vital people at the start of their careers, cut down instantly. They are alike in another way as
