the condition wherein a person is comprised of so many cultures, in a very mixed nation, that they lose their heritage. In addition, in the United States there is a
real lack of tradition as it is associated with a culture and this makes knowing ones culture, or ancestry, even more important to ones identity. The following paper examines pride
in Italian heritage, with a brief presentation of the writers own personal heritage experience which is not Italian. Pride and Italian Heritage In looking at the United States
and the importance of the Italian ancestry many may argue that having an Italian heritage is not necessarily something to be proud of considering that the nation knows much of
Italian history and society through entities such as the mafia, as presented through popular films like the Godfather, and television shows. If someone has a close knit Italian family there
may be assumptions that they are somehow, somewhere, connected with the mob. But, this is not all the Italians have in relationship to their heritage. However, it is still a
very powerful aspect of Italian heritage to many, even Italians. For example, a few years ago Mayor Giuliani gave an impersonation of the infamous Godfather, played by Marlon Brando, in
campaigning. Some argued that "its a stereotype that draws a link of being Italian and a member of the mob" which is not a good thing (FOXNews, 2007). In looking
more deeply at the Italian culture the Roman culture is one of the oldest known cultures in human history and that is clearly something to be proud of in relationship
