we will take an approximation of a mid point for the US prices1. There are items at different pricing points, we will look at the price along with the variable
and fixed cost allocations for three items; the small drink; the Big Mac and the hot fudge sundae2. However when undertaking an analysis in greater detail the more specific costs
associated with a single restaurant or area will be used. The dollar menu is exactly as it states, there are a number
of items on this menu, including the small coca cola drink, this is a 12 once drink served with ice in a disposable cup, for which the price is $1.
The cost of this is relatively small, the direct or variable costs are the costs of the goods; the post mix syrup, the cup, lid, straw and ice and
the cost of labor to take the order, pour the drink and give it to the customer. The direct cost of ingredients is estimated by be $0.05, this is a
low cost item with the syrup provided in large quantities, which allow for lower costs. The cup is estimated at $0.07, and the remaining variable costs are estimated at $0.05.
