While global expansion is an exciting time in the life of an organization, and is rife with opportunities for success, it is not something which can be undertaken lightly. In order to successfully expand, there are many factors typical of organizations which must be taken into consideration. This paper will explore many of the potential ramifications of global expansion. To better understand the manner in which global expansion can truly impact an organization, it can be instructive to look at a hypothetical example. For instance, suppose that one had been hired by a small company preparing to globally expand to advise the company on the matter of the expansion and its potential consequences. In particular, the organization wants to develop multiple tiers of management, with upper management devoted to managing the overarching strategies of the organization, while lower management focuses on the day to day aspects of running a business. One of the first considerations to be made is the morale of the employees. As it happens, within the hypothetical organization, half of the employees express a great deal of satisfaction with their job, and the other half has expressed some interest in moving into a managerial position. This is an excellent position for the organization to be in, as damaging employee morale is one of the greatest risks associated with implementing a dramatic job chance. If waning morale seemed to be an issue, then the organization could increase morale through emphasizing a value-oriented organizational culture which facilitates personal engagement and investment in the quality of work.
