when they realized that the United States was the subject of a terrorist attack. Terrorism is a tool that is used. It is similar to war, but with terrorism there
are no rules. Yet, whatever the weapon-terrorism, war, or something else-prejudice is something that can drive people to kill. In fact, terrorism happens to be an extreme form of prejudice
(Stout, 2004). What is prejudice? What have psychologists learned about this powerful social psychological force that has prompted acts of terrorism? Perhaps the most well known experiment in prejudice is
one devised by Jane Eliot (Oskamp, 2000). A third grade teacher by the name of Jane Eliot wanted to teach her pupils about prejudice and pretended that blue eyed students
were superior to brown eyed students (Oskamp, 2000). The next day, she told the students that she lied, and that brown-eyed students were actually superior (Oskamp, 2000). Each day,
a different group of students would know what it would feel like to have prejudice lodged against them (Oskamp, 2000). This is a classic experiment that shows the ludicrous nature
of prejudice. After all, while all students were treated equally up until a point in time, it seems ridiculous to treat one group better than the other based on eye
color. One may apply the same idea to skin color or other aspects of ones makeup. Prejudice is not logical. Interestingly, the well-known experiment also tends to bond the "haters"
into one group. That is, the people who exhibit prejudice form a bond. There is an "us" against "them" mentality. When terrorists are trying to get "them," they often dehumanize
