information on using this paper properly! Abstract The impact of attention deficit disorder, or ADD, on academic performance is widely written about and accepted. Studies indicate conclusively that
ADD is associated with poorer academic performance in virtually all spheres of measurement. A potentially more pressing concern, however, is revealed in an increasing number of studies which seem to
indicate that childhood ADHD is associated not just with academic underperformance, but also the development of social adjustment problems, emotional disorders related to mood and anxiety, and even substance abuse
disorders. An infamous 1985 study by Howell, Huessy & Hassuk conducted a longitudinal assessment of more than 200 students over a period of some 15 years, taking assessments during 2nd
grade, after the 4th and 5th grades, again after 9th and 12th grades, and once more three years after graduation. The results of this assessment were among the first to
conclusively establish the diagnosis of ADD as a primary predictor of the manifestation of social adjustment and emotional disorders in adolescence and young adulthood. Consequently, it becomes an important issue
to intervene in cases of ADD as early as possible to mitigate the potential development of such serious issues. Moving forward, it will be critical to assess which early caregiver
intervention strategies are most efficacious in forestalling the development of ADD. Longitudinal studies tracking the effectiveness of individual strategies on the development of adolescent and young adulthood social and emotional
