the future as it involves technology and the control technology has over society and the individual. The following paper examines to what degree Vonneguts novel predicted the future that is
present today, and also examines to what extent he predicted the corporate culture that exists today. Predictions: Vonneguts Player Piano In Vonneguts novel he offers up machines as
the primary construction devices of the society. Human beings are really only need to supervise and run the machines. In the time he wrote the novel machines were engaged in
a great deal of the manufacturing industry but they were nowhere near the complexities of todays machines. Today much of what people use, and much of the manufacturing industries, rely
on computer technology, computerized machines, to manufacture products. And, to be perfectly honesty, in many manufacturing industries there is little need for human beings in relationship to what it was
like back in Vonneguts time, as it relates to the writing of the novel. There are, however, many more individuals necessary for the upkeep and maintenance of the machines
today and far more human involvement in production than that which is illustrated in Vonneguts novel At one point the narrator states that, in relationship to secretarial jobs, "the bulk
of secretarial work could be done-as could most lower echelon jobs-more quickly and efficiently and cheaply by machines" (Vonnegut 2). That particular perspective on machines and their replacing human beings
has not proved true. While machines, and clearly computers, do a great deal of the leg work that human beings used to do, in relationship to conveying messages and planning
