and a violent society. Some have demonstrated that things will be different socially or economically. Yet, in looking down the road to 2050, just a bit over four decades, how
much will really change? It seems that the current economic crisis has created a situation where people are now looking for solutions to problems in the United States. For some
time-from the Reagan eighties through the 1990s-people have enjoyed unprecedented success, but as the twenty-first century unfolds, problems have been found. The economy was not as robust as some have
claimed. One problem that has been given a second look is the problem of immigration and population control. The United States of America is based on the premise that anyone
can enter and become prosperous. Anyone can enjoy the fruits of what the nation has to offer. However, in recent times, it has been learned that many immigrants come to
America seeking medical help or just to make money, but they have put a drain on the nations resources. Some seek to limit immigration. While that is one part of
the problem, illegal immigration is a more significant issue. Either way, the increasing population is something to be concerned with. Will the population continue to grow? What will things be
like in 2050? It seems that the population will increase significantly. Kent and Haub project: "The United States is in this group: It is projected to increase 42 percent between
2005 and 2050, adding more than 100 million people1." This means that the United States will likely have to continue to share the wealth with newcomers and/or there will be
many new babies born into the nation. This will hurt availability of resources. Thus, the job market will tighten and many more people will be living on government resources.
