business. Using information provided in a simulation, this paper provides information to the VP of Production with regard to the next years advertising budget, and the reasons for making these
suggestions. Discussion Blue, Inc. is currently the market leader in denim products, with 6% of a 45 billion dollar market (Applying time series methodologies). The CEO states that competitors have
increased their advertising budgets, but she hasnt committed to doing the same, at least not yet. She wants to know what the response has been to the advertising in the
past, and what the budget should be for the coming year. In order to figure this out, its necessary to look at many variables. Its suggested that the decision maker
"refer" to the data, "observe" it and then "decide" on the budget. The first thing to do is select the variable; one person thinks Blues, Inc. should use its competitors
advertising budgets as the variable; a second thinks it should be the companys retail presence (Applying time series methodologies). Myra Reid, however, who is the person that needs this data,
simply says that its important to choose the right variable, and to review their relationship with the advertising budget. The three variables under consideration are the competitors budgets, sales, and
retail coverage. The first seems to have almost no direct relation: what a competitor does has no direct impact on what Blues, Inc., does. It may indicate the competitors opinion
