This Paper, Please Michael W. Hudsons "The Monster" analyzes the subprime
mortgage industry and the factors and people that played into the development of the economic catastrophe which finally brought this country to its knees. Predatory lending, the practice of
lenders pushing high risk loans through to people who obviously werent qualified to pay them back , was at the roots of our nations economic collapse and it was at
the root of the personal economic collapse of those these predators preyed on. The loans were obviously high risk because the people that took out loans simply didnt have
the resources to possible be able to pay them back. They were also high profit, however, and it became the goal of the lenders to make them not only
appear capable of carrying such a loan but to convince them that they could. They often did so by simply misrepresenting exactly what it was the borrower was agreeing
to. The borrowers in this scenario were victims, not perpetrators, of the greatest economic fraud to unfold in the history of our country and Michael W. Hudson isnt afraid to
emphasize that fact. Never-the-less, they too were part of what Hudson refers to as the many headed monster, part of the nightmare which spiraled out of control to affect
