Canada. Above all, the book sheds light on ideas about feminism and the problems that plague women. Yet, the work also addresses larger issues related to feminism and not only
those related to one particular group. Working Feminism is organized into broad chapters but some contain theoretical material where others include specific information about the area of focus. The
author explains the planning and organization of the material as follows: "Just as feminist theorists have rethought conventional approaches to melodrama, this is a book that puts feminist theory on
work on non- or no explicitly feminist theory, and returns this theorizing repeatedly to a case study of Filipino domestic workers in Vancouver, Canada" (Pratt, 2004, p.3). The first chapter
includes anecdotal information but really sets the stage for the rest of the work which consists of eight rather extensive chapters each addressing different issues. Within the pages of this
book that provides both an overview of feminist theory, it also includes anecdotes with a focus on these Filipino workers. One area of intrigue that crops up within this book,
and exists in a variety of chapters is the Philippine Women Centre which is really an important group in terms of this authors inquiry. This organization is something that provides
a sense of place that even a nonfiction work can utilize to provide familiarity and continuity. The author achieves a sense of belongingness by focusing on the Philippine Women Centre.
It seems that the major objective of the author, in creating this work, is to relay the importance of feminism by not actually saying why this is the case, but
through demonstrating that this is true. In other words, through showing the problems with the domestic workers and how they are related, a case for feminism is made. Simply spouting
