Confrontational Skills Confrontational skills are important in the therapeutic setting because they provide the clinician with a tool for exploring what the client is not saying. Often, clients
say one thing and mean another. Though the interviewer cannot assume that this is the case, confrontational statements give the interviewer the tools to demonstrate they are listening, identify
areas of concern and elicit a reaction from the client. Through the use of confrontation, the clinician can bring a clients
attention to the problem or problematic behavior and relate to them the need for change (Berman and Shopland, 2005). One of the key issues in this kind of confrontation
