They may have their own Sunday morning rituals, which include getting ready for church, listening to spiritual music, receiving communion, and going to breakfast afterwards. Whichever spiritual practices people subscribe
to, they all have the goal of aligning the self with God or the universe or some larger entity. They also serve another purpose. Spohn (1997) writes: "Spiritual practices aim
to inculcate specific habits of the heart that will serve to guide conduct" (p. 109). Spiritual practice seems to enhance spirituality, but it also serves to guide behavior. Someone who
goes to church regularly for example is more likely to follow his or her faith. People who have lost touch with their spiritual needs, and do not engage in any
practices, are likely to feel empty and stray from specific behavioral rules. Spohn (1997) further remarks that meditation for example, helps in terms of interpreting personal identity. To some
extent, the larger religions add to this as well. They foster personal growth through a larger religious experience. One may spend time in the sanctuary with a group of like
minded people, but in the end, the growth is theirs alone. It is personal. Baptism for example is a ritual that is designed to cleanse the baby and purify him
as he enters the physical world (Friedheim, 1976). Witnessing baptism is something that bonds believers together, but it is personal as well. Believers contend that the baby is cleansed and
it actually makes a difference in his own spiritual journey on Earth and in the afterlife. Baptism is just one example. In evaluating practice in general, there is a curiosity
