Such pottery serves as a connection almost between the past and the present, preserved for centuries upon centuries due to the nation of the material. The following paper examines art
and history of the ancient pottery of Greece. Pottery of Ancient Greece The ancient pottery from Greece is an art form that falls into many different categories as
the culture progressed through history. And, as Wikipedia (2007) notes, "Thanks to its hardy nature, pottery bulks large in the archaeological record of Ancient Greece, and because we have so
much of it (some 100,000 vases are recorded in the Corpus vasorum antiquorum) it has exerted a disproportionately large influence on our understanding of Greek society." What makes this important,
historically speaking, is that in comparison to other art forms, and art forms that were perhaps not as profuse in daily use, pottery truly does offer a great deal more
than say Greek paintings or other forms of art (Wiipedia, 2007). While other forms of art disintegrate, and were less numerous, Greek pottery came in many shapes, sizes, functions, and
abounded in their time in number. In relationship to the periods of pottery in Greece there was vase painting. The first period
of vase painting was the Protogeometric Style wherein Wikipedia (2007) notes, "Indeed, it is one of the few modes of artistic expression besides jewellery in this period since the sculpture,
monumental architecture and mural painting of this era are unknown to us." Then came the geometric style, wherein geometric styles were instilled in the pottery, such triangles and other geometric
