and property which can result with their advent. In addition to their physical impacts, however, there are also their psychological impacts. The thesis can be presented that the
devastation we as a nation have incurred in Louisiana and Mississippi will have long lasting psychological impacts for those that experienced it first hand. The children that whose lives
were disrupted by Katrina are among the most psychologically sensitive of the hurricanes victims. One of the most likely psychological impacts on these children is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). Post traumatic Stress Disorder is quite possibly one of the most dramatic of psychological conditions. It affects thousands of
people all over the world, resulting from a variety of traumas which are inflicted regardless of age, gender, race, or culture. Providence Journal (G-04) reveals that an estimated ten
to thirty percent of all individuals that experience a traumatic event have a likelihood of developing PTSD or another form of mental illness. Post traumatic stress syndrome can result from
diversity of causes including the horrors of war, sexual abuse, or even such traumas as animal attacks. It is associated with a variety of psychological manifestations and can
be an extremely complicated condition both to diagnose and to treat. That Hurricane Katrina could be classified as a stress sufficient enough to result in PTSD is obviously an
understatement. This hurricane uprooted thousands in its wake. It destroyed buildings, roads, and the physical and sociological infrastructural system that make up a significant component of a childs world.
