establish a semblance of organization between and among the foundational elements of contemporary feminism, effectively serving to provide necessary support for the second wave that ultimately occurred. The second
(postmodern) wave of feminism, however, was instrumental in setting a precedence unlike any other, in that the movement went to great lengths to create the fervor it ultimately produced (Cameron
945). With the second wave of feminism came the reassessment of womens roles everywhere, as well as the redefining factors inherent to sex and gender. II. DEFINING "SEX"
When it comes to social acceptance, there exist some very strict guidelines: An individual is either male or female. Indeed, little room for approval is given for those who
do not fall into one of these two restrictive categories, often forcing people to assume roles that abide by social dictates. In short, a persons sex is defined by
his or her genitalia and the type of hormones passing through their bodies. Men have a penis, gonads and a high level of testosterone, while women have a vagina
and estrogen/progesterone. Women grow breasts and have babies while men have greater body hair and larger body stature. The psychological element of sex is such that women are
far more emotive and nurturing while men are more pragmatic and detached. With that said, however, it is easy to see how these rigid definitions fail to take into
